Leo New Moon – 24 July 2025

Discover true love for yourself – in your peaceful heart –
and you will love the world, no problem!

(don’t worry about the astro-jargon – go for the gist)

Leo – the heart of things!

.       New Moon in Leo always promises upbeat activities and fun – which may or may not be fulfilled, as with all expectations! But the feeling is up-beat and hopeful. The point of Sun and Moon setting our sights on Leo is that the heart is supreme, so I would encourage everyone to locate their heart, and put it into whatever they do – whatever we do – whatever YOU do!  Leo is personal, and with Mercury also in Leo, we will be looking at life very much from our own point of view, seeing what joy can be got out of it. Mercury relates to mental activity, communication and movement, and is retrograde from 17 July to 10 August (from 15 back to 4 degrees Leo) which suggests the next four weeks are about re-examining what has happened since the beginning of July (Mercury moves beyond 15 Leo on 25 August, after the next New Moon). We may be re-hashing previous decisions, changing plans that were made, pondering conversations we might prefer to have had differently, checking how our identities may have shifted . . . somehow we are not ready to move forward just yet.

.       This New Moon, at 2 Leo, is focusing us all on the beautiful pattern of outer planets in force at the moment and throughout these months (Pluto, Saturn/Neptune, and Uranus) all at the beginning of Air and Fire signs – we are having a good look at, and think about, what is new in our world. Theoretically we are on an upsurge of newness which could be amazing in terms of helping us to live cleaner, more honest, growthful lives. But circumstances seem anchored to the past, and we can’t yet see how to pull our wellies out of the mud! Artificial Intelligence is a major issue, and the extra capacity it has to enable hugely transformative technology to interfere with our everyday experience of being who we are. Also, perhaps because we feel safer in groups, there’s a tendency to be choosing which group we want to be associated with, and the rights of that group, rather than courageously standing as the individuals that we are. As individuals dare to speak out about their personal experience, we move into the Aquarian group, each person adding their own experience into the whole, where we can celebrate the uniqueness of each one.

The bigger picture is available – are we ready to see it?

.       The pattern is pointing us towards some great discussion topics: regarding freedom and what it really means (Uranus in Gemini trine Pluto); about the relative importance of the material and non-material worlds (Sun/Moon trine Saturn/Neptune); and on another level, about individual pain and how groups seek to heal it (Chiron in Aries sextile Venus who squares Mars). But it looks as if we are not inclined to engage at that level just yet. I’m finding that, each time I try to write about anything here now, I get into ranting from one point of view, and it’s important in any discussion to recognise that opinions depend where you’re coming from, your personal experience, and so on – a very mixed platform.

.       So I’m not going to rant at you with my opinions, that would be expressing the energy of sharing uselessly – judging, finding fault, being ‘right’ forcefully, war! (Mars in Virgo on this South Node.) The positive use of the same energy would be efforts to put things right, healing. History tells us what tends to happens most, but perhaps we are at a time when the balance is shifting, I believe it’s never the mass of humanity that wants war. This makes it so very important to find another way of sharing information and understanding. This is the ‘work’ that expands our edges beyond what we know, growing creatively into Light itself, where all separate definitions dissolve – where all is known by being encompassed, transcended . . .

.       We need to take care we don’t lose the ability to reach into the unknown by ourselves, to experience that All’ness of Being. I like to think of my small everyday identity in this body as an outflowing of my soul, the necessary conduit for universal Love to flow out into material experience. Our challenge with technology is not to let it shrink our vision to the material level alone, or reduce our natural capacities. Focusing on living honestly and harmoniously with each other, doing the best we can as we are, in touch with our inner experience, will enable us to dis-cover that Light which shines through all, and maybe the purpose of all our experience as human beings.

This Full Moon – a glimpse of the end we’re aiming for?

.       In contrast to the ranting opinions, the Full Moon chart on 9 August shows the energy joining in those great discussions mentioned above, with a view to bringing the peace and harmony that is so essential if solutions are to arise (Mars at the beginning of Libra). The pattern is an exact hexagram* of planets, with just one point un-represented – that point is the beginning of Sagittarius, which would give meaning to the whole pattern. So the position of Sagittarius’ planetary ruler is crucial, and we find that ruler, Jupiter, right beside Venus in Cancer! – I could cry at the beauty of this symbolism! Let me explain: Venus/Jupiter in Cancer represents caring nurturing love expanding generously to all, and in this Full Moon chart, this is the principle that gives purpose to the most perfect shape one can ever see in a chart. In other words, we need to find in ourselves that all-embracing love, to bring about completion of the changes that are rocking the whole world at this time. It is beyond most of us at present, we mostly give love at the everyday human level; but that’s where humanity is destined to grow. Loving ourselves so that we feel strong enough to stand at peace in our own truth, naturally expands to love all others – no need to fight, love heals all.
(*The hexagram is nature’s strongest sweetest shape as every bee-hive demonstrates with honeycomb.)

Humanity’s path at this time – that’s us, folks!

.       The Sun still in Leo is opposite the Aquarius Moon, holding together individual hearts within the group that supports all – interestingly that opposition makes no contact with the larger pattern itself. We clearly still have to learn all this. But the Nodes of the Moon, humanity’s path at this time, connect well with Venus and Jupiter indicating that it’s the loving purpose of this pattern that will pull humanity along the correct path. The astrology may not make sense if you don’t speak ‘Astrologese’, but I hope the shape in the chart itself will strike a chord as you look. So do check out the charts in this month’s video to see what I’m speaking from. At the Full Moon, Mercury stops being retrograde, and the following two weeks at least we may be in touch with the best purpose of being alive in the material experience at this time. Reach in, to the path that leads to the Light, the Love, that is what we are.

Contemplation for this New Moon in Leo

Step forward, dear human beings, onto this stairway.
However daunting it seems, you chose to be here for this.
When you lose sight of purpose and Light
reach out to us who dwell there.
We know you are not weak or incapable in your unknowing.
In your darkest hours, there are always stars that watch
whose light penetrates the thickest clouds
your past has created round you.
We see you, and love you
more than you can know from where you are.
But trust the process of growth
and know that your capacity for appreciation and joy,
your loving brightness and sparkling eyes,
express the beauty and truth of reality, far more
than any amount of clever talk and fearful thoughts.
When you are at your saddest, remind your face how to smile
and the tears that rise let them fall,
for they will wash your pain from you.
Then turn to your sister your brother to see how you can help,
and you will find we are much closer than you imagined –
we are yourselves in Light.

With love.
