Thought and communication are powerful this month:
take care to think and speak from your heart.
(don’t worry about the astro-jargon – go for the gist)
Scorpio finds what lives in darkness
. In this chart, Mercury has retrograded back to the Sun, so as the Moon arrives to be made New, all three are at 28 Scorpio. This degree is part of the great smooth-flowing pattern of connections indicating a determined, sensitively thoughtful quality putting its mark on the month we are about to experience. As Mercury represents mental energy, thought, communication – in Scorpio researching beneath the surface for what’s true – we are all involved in a great stirring of the pot that brings all hidden underlying stuff to the surface. Most of the planets are involved in this beautiful pattern, most of them also appearing to move backwards into the past, so focusing us into what has been as the basis for what is now. And all this will show up in our personal lives as well as the shared life of humanity across the Earth. (Mercury is retrograde until 29 November, turning forwards just two days after Saturn).
. So although this is a New Moon, the newness is more likely to be a new look into whatever out-dated attitudes or behaviour might still be driving our behaviour to each other, and the rest of life. Whatever you have been ‘managing’, coping with, holding down, is very likely to be revealed, and have to be owned up to and lived through. Particularly, personal relationships are the stage for any discoveries about ourselves, and opportunities to practise relating in a more caring and respectful way (Venus in Scorpio trines the North Node in Pisces). What is called for is empathy (Neptune), wise patience (Saturn) and care for others’ needs (Jupiter in Cancer).
Navigating turbulent waters
. All these six, Sun/Moon and four planets, create the shape of a large triangle connecting the three Water signs, the three qualities of emotional sensitivity cascading like white water through our lives. They are joined in strength by Pluto and Uranus, upheaving and cleaning up as we get washed along. The whole pattern of planets is working like a strong boat, appropriate to the transformation required. To remain in the boat, we do need to let go of trying to steer it, or struggling to get others to pull in the same direction that we might feel important (Chiron in Aries square Jupiter). Part of the difficulty of us all being crushed in the same boat is the prevalence of an idea that minority groups need special care, rather than dealing with the needs of individuals. There just isn’t room to accommodate the pain and guilt of historic trauma for much longer – there’s simply too much trauma being created now by the present gross instability and fear of the future. Divisive ideas are a distraction from what really needs to be done now to survive in a sustainable way.
. The direction is set already, and this month we are called on to keep our emotional field bright and optimistic, while learning, and broadcasting, all we can (Mars in Sagittarius). So let us enjoy ourselves in whatever way brings light into the world, even though we may not be able to move things along until the Full Moon on 4 December (Mars makes no aspects to the rest of the pattern until a trine to Chiron).
Shock as the box is opened
. The Full Moon chart shows ideas fountaining out as the people ask questions (Moon in Gemini) with the Sagittarian desire to get to the Truth, to understand the bigger picture. This desire touches us all in our relationships as well as the world ‘out there’ (Mars and Venus either side of the Sun). As those who have suffered find their voice, their plight is seen, and needs to be addressed (Chiron is quincunx Mercury who is part of the great triangle of empathic solutions). The challenge for us all from 4 December is not to let ourselves be distracted from dealing with the Truths we may not want to face (Sun and Moon square to North and South Nodes).
. As the month progresses, there may develop a kind of mad frenzy which doesn’t stop until 15 December, when some sanity begins to insert itself – the need to get better grounded, and organise things in ways that work! (Planets through the end of Sagittarius all square Saturn/Neptune in Pisces, then Mars reaches Capricorn – phew!) The next New Moon is almost at the Solstice where the Sun shifts into Capricorn following the Moon, on 20-22 December. But I’ll get into that bit when we get there – a lot’s on the plate before then! In the meantime, be prepared to change on a dime/sixpence, ready to let go of what you really don’t need (you may not have to let it go for a brief month or two yet). And the major thing to let go is negative projections. Don’t worry, if possible! And keep your thoughts open enough to let Light into our world.

Contemplation for this New Moon in Scorpio
Castles in the air structured in Light,
dream bright futures beyond mind.
And picture your children’s bright eyes, knowing
they will grow, making castles in their partners’ eyes
and bringing in bright children of their own.
The world will look different then,
and people will live kindly.
Watch for signs of change and growth
alive in small corners. Leave undisturbed
to grow in their own way, no pressure from you.
They are new, and your children will lead them gently
for love will rule.
With love.
