Aquarius . . .

The Aquarian view is, as it were, from mountain high. However, a person who has a strength in Aquarius still has their feet on the physical ground. They may try to stay detached from the ground to maintain that wonderful accurate vision, but their lives are about learning to be just another human being without losing the broader view - they have to accept ‘being in the world’ as well as ‘not of it’.

An image I have for this is of holding a periscope which enables Aquarius to see over the heads of people around, looking down at everyone - including themselves amongst us all. When Aquarius maintains a healthy human humility, they observe without judgement, know without egoic pride, and experience themselves as unique - as unique as every one else.

We all need clear vision

A Zodiac-sign strength in a chart is not just the Sun-sign, it could also be the Moon, the Ascendant, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn or the North or South Nodes of the Moon - and for Aquarius, it could be any of these when connecting with the planet Uranus, who expresses Aquarius energetically. So most of us need to develop our own periscope vision, and to appreciate everyone’s uniqueness.

The planet Uranus represents spiritual inner freedom - it expresses through electrical energy as lightning in a thunder storm, and the nervous system in our bodies. So this points up the sudden, innovative, ‘outside the box,’ side of Aquarius. Saturn represents the more structural side of Aquarius - partly the tendency to hold to an idea, ideology, person, without checking for changes over time (we all need to update our fixities every now and then); and also partly the magical way manifesting happens when we work with the truth of things.

Connecting with your emotions consciously

This month begins with the New Moon connecting well to Uranus, giving us a clear sense of being ourselves, so that we have a good perspective to deal with the emotions that are liable to arise within the first day (Mercury into Pisces and Venus in Capricorn moves direct). We are likely to feel very emotional about all sorts of things, very sensitive to the state of the world and humanity’s suffering. Everything is likely to feel exaggerated and intense (Chiron trined by Jupiter, sextiled by Pluto) so holding to a practical focus will help us not be overwhelmed (Venus in Capricorn and South Node in Taurus). Aquarius tends to be levitated about the emotional sea, but this month we must be prepared to look at the monsters of the deep.

‘Love is for giving’

This pattern in the New Moon chart suggests a great time for healing old wounds. It is suggested that any family member you may have difficult issues with, or any person you have loved and fallen out with, or away from, whether they are still here on earth or moved onto other dimensions - let them approach once more, let them come near you. Wounds can be healed at this time, love that has been lost or disfigured can be restored transformed (Jupiter in Cancer trine Chiron who sextiles Venus/Pluto). All that is required is our openness and willingness to reconnect and communicate spirit to spirit (as Mercury moves through Pisces from 1 to 12 February). From 6 February for the rest of the month, we have an opportunity to track back and put things right (Mercury retrograde), with extra clarity of vision from 12 February (Mercury back into Aquarius).

Even Aquarius needs to be loved

Perhaps it is sweet to have the Full Moon on Valentine’s Day, 14 February, but it does mean that emotions will be running strong. We will need to be relating with love and spaciousness, allowing for personal differences and the need to grow in our own way. The Moon will be in Leo, bringing positivity and good humour (Mars in Libra trine Sun, sextile Moon). This is a great time for carving out new agreements. The work may be hard but it promises to bring a new firmness, reliability and a foundation for future growth (Venus in Capricorn and Saturn square Sun and Moon).

Take time out from working on yourself in relationship. Have fun, take space - but make sure you come back to your people soon. As long as we take a bit of space when we first need it, we will not need very much before we are ready to return: it’s when we hang into a work-in-progress beyond our needs that we have to abandon the project entirely (Uranus in Aries square Jupiter and Venus/Pluto). Also, notice when you’re getting too intense and serious, but don’t go too far the other way, making fun of the work (Saturn in Scorpio square Moon and Sun).

Humour with kindness will temper the tempers.

Contemplation for this New Moon in Aquarius

Touching the edge of the precipice.
Can I jump
knowing not if I can fly?
Considering all responsibilities,
who will miss me
if I go?
Rocks and grass at my feet -
and the vast blue space that calls my soul -
is it not time to go now?
And yet how can I leave?

Yours is not to leave this dear ground, this earth.
Yours is to be - here, and look
so that the vision is available
to all who seek
and nothing is lost.

Hold the blue-beyond lightly in your mind,
and the dear earth in your heart.
And know that life supports your efforts
to grow, with love.
With love,
