Overview of this New Moon chart

For many people at this time, there is hardship and anxiety as the money market slips and slides about. It’s almost as if we are holding our breath, waiting for disaster, while at the same time on another level, we are enjoying ourselves partying. On that light hearted level, it’s as though anything is possible and why not enjoy what we can. This is the face of Sagittarius!

I’m describing the chart of this New Moon: the astrology I’m referring to in this chart is that the Sun, Moon, Mercury and Mars, are all clustered in the early degrees of Sagittarius with no connection to the rest of the planets, so operating in a kind of cocoon. However, Sagittarius is ruled by expansive Jupiter, and Jupiter is in Capricorn, the ‘real world’ of business and finance and the infrastructure of our living.

All the above is like saying, we’re having a party with friends on the inside, while ‘daddy’ is dealing with the serious stuff on the outside. The sweet thing at present is Venus approaching Jupiter and trine Saturn, so that ‘daddy’ feels kind and basically beneficent to us. And even though he’s trying to deal with the truth of how things are, there are strong attempts to alleviate difficulty. The solutions are wild and/or inspired (Uranus) – only time will really show which. The bonus in this situation is the sense of humanity as a whole being affected by the same current events, which is the basis for growth in tolerance, and care for those who suffer – we’re all in this together!

Venus brings love

For the second time, Pluto is at the very beginning of Capricorn in this New Moon chart, the first time being in January 08. At that time, Venus joined Jupiter, both trine to Saturn, all in earth signs. Having been right round the Zodiac since then, Venus has now joined Jupiter and Saturn in exactly the same configuration again. So we could say that this planetary arrangement is describing the flavour of Pluto’s passage through Capricorn for the next 15 years. The suggestion is that the need for material change in the financial, corporate and practical world has been accepted, and that the transformation of our physical lives is practically achievable. We are becoming more connected with the truth, and also expanding our love of the Earth,

A striking difference between the two occasions is that in January 08 the position of Mars reflected difficulties, loss and misunderstandings. In this New Moon chart, Mars’ placement with the Sun, Moon and Mercury in Sagittarius shows that the present motivation is to find new solutions with a sense of adventure. Communication is likely to be energetic, and sometimes unsubtle, but it should at least be clear. This goes for each of us personally this month, as well as the world at large.

Living the Sagittarian way

Sagittarius is warm (fire) and enthusiastic (filled with God-energy). While planets move through this sign, a wave of interesting possibilities sweeps over us all. The way to be with this energy is to find, or make, adventures throughout the day. Wherever you find in yourself anxiety, or impatience, pressure to be fast or efficient, stop and breathe. Then re-orient yourself to that next activity as though it is the adventure of the moment – make it an adventure!

The energy this month creates co-incidences and meaningful connections. Whatever happens to you, make the most of this opportunity to increase your understanding, wonder what the event might imply, or reflect in your life, so it can teach you. Even if at first glance events make no sense, you will be expanding your ability to read life.

This month we are liable to blurt out truths, and opinions that may not be true, with energy which could feel over-enthusiastic, even aggressive, to the receiver. So if you find yourself receiving comments delivered to you this way, step back without judging, and try to hear the useful bits without battling with the style. If you notice someone flinching, or stepping back, from what you have said, discover how they feel about the subject and include that, so that it becomes a conversation rather than a fierce monologue!

Above all, look for the joy, the fun, the excitement – without losing a sense of the ground under your feet. A good month for flights of fancy, balanced by reality checks.

Contemplation for this New Moon in Sagittarius
Let your thoughts gambol and play
while you watch over them like a fond parent.
You will need to call them in when you notice
your mind tired out with the wealth of possible directions,
and the dullness of repetition creeps in.
Make a note of the paths that could satisfy,
and then, be still
and gently breathe.
Lift your mind onto the back of a great white eagle
to rest, while the wings of your soul
take you on a journey,
It flies with you over land and sea,
rising higher into the blue
to meet the huge familiar eyes of the heart’s knowing.
Relax, be open to these eyes, and be known,
bathing in acceptance and compassion.
Then, as you return,
look with those eyes
on your world.
