Taurus - communication without words

Taurus is not about words or thoughts, more about sensations, and being with what is manifestly in the world - not just the solid physical, but the physical energy of life that flows through, and holds, all things. I remember being told about a particular tree that answered all questions, and when I stood by this tree, I found I just understood the answers to all that I asked. It was an extraordinary and illuminating experience, and yet, when I walked away from that tree, I could hardly even remember what my questions had been, let alone the vision I received. It was as if the tree made a hole in my ego-centred view, and, without that, there was no barrier to understanding.

However, this New Moon chart has a strong focus on our minds, and our communication, suggesting that we can be inspired with innovative ideas about what needs to change (Mercury together with Uranus in Aries connecting really well to the North Node) if we free ourselves from the limiting ego-view. The beauty of this Taurus New Moon is its connection with the great shifts that are taking place in the world we know (Sun/Moon trine Pluto and Mars). It’s as though, at this time, we do accept that things are changing and will continue to change - the question becomes, how can we make shifts inwardly to match our changing world? Perhaps, this month, we need to open our minds with questions so that inspiration can ‘answer’ us:

Question: (I’m practising here!) Are there really angels?

“Oh, yes! but they are bigger than you can possibly imagine.”

Question:(This time I want help.) What can I learn about the shifts we need to make, from the Sun/Moon creating such a lovely pattern in this chart?

“Focussing on the practicalities of the world you personally live in day by day, you will be aware of those moments when what you used to do doesn’t bring quite what you want any more. That is the point of making shifts, and the option is yours. Your body will direct you most obviously, its little pains and discomforts are talking to you constantly about what you do that doesn’t suit it. You can adjust and try a different food, a different way of walking, maybe slow down, or move more. It becomes clearer every day, now, what the result of not adjusting will be: furred up arteries, stiffening joints, stomach trouble - and sometimes the adjustment that is required is really small, like a tiny course correction manifesting a different direction and a different destination way down the line.

“This month, you also have the option of opening your mind to those inspired ideas that will change the course of your life. Sometimes it is so very small, the change - majorly it works out that a change of attitude makes all the difference needed. And all the practical changes unfold naturally with that ‘right’ focus.”

Shifting attitudes

It is our thoughts and feelings that are between our inner selves and reality ‘out there’; the combination shows up in our ego-based attitudes to people and situations. Knowing what our attitudes are is essential if we are to relate to life as it is, otherwise we just assume we have the right angle on things - we tend think we are right most of the time! The movement, this next few days, of Mercury over Uranus gives us the option of opening our minds to the truth of life, so that we can see where our attitudes are just personal ‘eye-glasses’, not even necessarily appropriate. Catching sight of one of our assumed attitudes is a major step - changing it to something more helpful is a major skill.

For example: if someone seems to you boring, that is an attitude you have showing up in your reaction to them. Firstly, you need to see that it is you personally that is bored - someone else might not be. You then have an option: to either continue to think you are right to be bored by this person, or to explore the bored feeling to learn more about it, where it comes from in your past, what it’s telling you about how, and why, you judge people that way. Then, you will have the choice to look at the person with clear eyes, notice how they move as they talk, perhaps see life from their perspective, appreciate that you don’t really know them, and so on - not boring at all.

Manifesting at the ‘right’ time

With Jupiter, as well as Sun and Moon, in Taurus, there is a sense of being able to actually do what we have hoped and planned to do (also Mars is now moving forwards again). But you could feel driven to go ahead too quickly, without really connecting to the relevant situation as it is now (Mercury in Aries square Pluto), in which case you may find yourself too far in the future, and having to wait for life to catch up - frustrating! Be wary of those ideas you feel afraid of NOT doing, or if you feel pressure to do it, or the ‘oughts’ and ‘shoulds’ cloud your thinking. These are the reasons of the frightened ego, and those ideas may fall flat in practice.

The knack of being OK with all this, then, is to not mind too much about the outcome of our efforts - if they don’t work as we wanted, oh, well, let’s try something else! Let every attempt to manifest be an experiment, to be learned from, rejoiced in or rejected, and moved on beyond.

The knack of actually manifesting this month, perhaps, is to ask inwardly for the moment to arise when your chosen action will be appropriate (Mercury/Uranus quincunx Mars in Virgo), and allow the Angel of Earthly Life to make the decisions, pick up the innovations that are relevant, and transform our experience in safely (Sun/Moon sextile Neptune).

Ways of blending these conflicting energies might include putting a new idea into effect sensitively, or sensing the wholeness of the situation within which you wish to move, or offering ideas to others who are in a better position to ground them, or having lots of ideas and seeing where they lead, always being prepared to drop them. If one of your ideas or plans is ‘right’ for this time, it will be caught up by life’s energy and whirled into a natural creative flow, to grow in ways you hadn’t imagined.

Contemplation for this New Moon in Taurus

Taurus is not about thought,
but the mind’s activity is important this month.
So what is it about the mind?
It’s the spaces between the thoughts,
it is the place where thought bubbles up into being,
Perhaps the spring of awareness itself.

First, fill your body with love,
the same love that you bestow
on your beloved, whoever that may be.
Love every cell of your body,
every process that is its life.
Sit in perfect relaxation
in trust that you will hold yourself safe,
without criticism, without forgetting.

Sink gently into the loving arms of the angel of earth.
Let your mind spread out.
and contemplate the vast spread of sky above,
clouds, blueness, deep space darkness beyond,
satellites moving steadily, stars . . .

Breathe the space for a while,
then re-collect your mind, noticing
the old falling away
and the new sprouting leaves -
I wonder what the plants that grow will be?
