New Moons are about new beginnings. In poetical terms, the Moon becomes emptied of light at the end of each monthly cycle. As it reaches the Sun, it receives a new seed of light that will grow, flower and compost within the month. This new seed will have the qualities of the sign the Sun inhabits at the time. The whole chart of that moment puts its stamp on the following month. The Full Moon is the flowering, and adds its colouring to the second half of the month.

It seems that the Moon, circling the Earth, draws our attention to the qualities of whatever sign it is travelling through, and particularly when it reaches the Sun. The Sun will have been in Pisces since 18th February, giving us the Pisces background, but, from 10th March, the Moon emphasises our need to pay attention to the emotional field we are swimming through.

Pisces – the pitfalls and gifts:

Pisces is like the sea of human emotion, and in it we share the emotions of humanity everywhere. All our reactions to what is going on in our own lives are likely to be coloured by whatever wars, celebrations, disasters and triumphs, are current. This is always true to an extent, and some people are more susceptible to it than others, but for the next month we will all have an extra dose.

It is helpful to remember when having an emotional experience that this is how many other people are feeling. It’s a time to recognise that we all share the human condition. It really helps when we bring some compassion to bear on the incomprehensible reactions we seem to dredge up from childhood without meaning to.

The Pisces lack of boundaries also enables us to connect with all non-physical layers of experience, especially the sensed and felt and intuited – an opportunity to ‘see the light’ if we are looking for it. And aiming for the ‘light’ is a good idea when pushing through the emotional sea. The light of understanding as a goal helps us to slip through the psychic glamour of fear and bitterness that so many warm their hands on.

The rest of the chart
– what to focus on:

This particular new Moon is trine Saturn, who is making his way through his last few months of Cancer. It’s a constructive connection, offering opportunities to really understand any family issues we may have been tangling with, and to sort them out amicably. To achieve this, we will need to have at heart the welfare of the others involved (Jupiter quincunx Venus in Pisces). Relating in this way promotes things working out for our benefit also. It will be important to be careful of how much responsibility we take on, that it be appropriate to others’ real needs, as well as our own real capacity (Mars in Capricorn recently square Jupiter, and opposite Saturn).

If you have allowed yourself to take on more than you can fulfil, it is now time to be honest (Jupiter in Libra trine Neptune in Aquarius). When we are truthful about what we can and cannot do, everybody actually benefits, even if they choose to complain at the time. So don’t let feelings of guilt or pride stop you from readjusting your load! Just be kind and sensitive in your explanations, respecting others enough to know they can handle it.

A meditation:

It’s good to focus at the beginning of a lunar month. The focus this month is towards accepting the people around us as they are, and endeavouring to tune in to them for a greater understanding of them and their lives. And it is most valuable to do this for ourselves as well – accept ourselves as we are, and tune in to our own greater understanding for the advice we need.

The Full Moon (Libra, Sun in Aries) will add its qualities from 25th March, encouraging us further in being ourselves pleasantly.
