The pattern of planets in this New Moon chart falls into three groups:

1 - Sun/Moon in Gemini in positive
      relationship with Saturn in Leo.

In Gemini, the Sun and Moon are offering a new look at communication, which is focussed this month on whether we are speaking from our ego identity, or from our heart, our centre self. The point of communication in a relationship is to let the others know what is true for us, so that they know who they are relating to – just as we need to be receptive to their truth, so we can respond when speaking to them. Without this honesty, and receptivity to it, we are not really relating at all. If we will express our truth for the sake of relating, even when we lack confidence or feel vulnerable, this chart shows we will be healing our relationships (Sun/Moon trine Chiron).

The Nodes of the Moon are still pointing from Libra to Aries, indicating that diplomacy is a necessary part of achieving what we really want to do in the world. So this month is not about demanding that we get what we want, but perhaps about just communicating our true desires appropriately in a gentle way.

2 - Venus in Aries challenging
      Mars in Cancer.

Perhaps our difficulty this month might stem from wanting to tell it how it is up front, and finding that it comes out more emotional than we meant, so getting into an argument. It’s often the case that when I dare to say what I really mean, I find out how much I care. I discover that I’ve been holding down the emotion, maybe for fear of upsetting someone, or worrying what others might think. So, when I’ve expressed my truth, I find myself trying to explain my emotions! I find generally it’s better not to try to explain – it becomes an attempt to justify how I feel, and emotions don’t need to be justified. They just are what they are, and something triggers them. Also, if I express hurt or anger to someone, it would be natural for them to react emotionally, and then we are both in it. What helps is kindness to our emotional self so that it feels heard, and extending that kindness to others with sensitivity because, this month, we are all likely to feel the emotional energy of Mars in Cancer stirring our stomachs.

3 - Mercury in Gemini

On a verbal communication level, this month, we have the Gemini flexibility to assist our quick understanding, and adjusting to what we find. Mercury, our mental energy, is flowing well with Neptune, our intuition - our sensitivity to others will be well enhanced. The major part of good communication is listening, and when we listen well, we are likely to ‘know’ what a person is feeling. Conversely, trying to hide our real emotions is doomed to failure this month. Yet blurting out how we feel could stop a conversation in its tracks! (Mercury is also in a stand-off with Uranus in Pisces, sudden emotional reactions).

These are the three planetary groups - the test for us this month may be simply to express ourselves honestly, while remaining sensitive to others. The great thing is that the pattern suggests our efforts will be rewarded by clearing away much of the emotional baggage we have been hanging onto (Jupiter in Scorpio forcing the issue) without having to burn our relationship bridges!

Something to bear in mind:

‘Projection’ is a principle which helps understanding. When we project our negativity into the world, we find the world appearing to be negative to us. For example, if I walk out of a group because I think they are rejecting me, it helps me if I can see that I am rejecting the group. And again: if I notice that everyone is angry with me today, I can check to see if I’m giving myself a hard time, and then check if perhaps I am angry about something myself that I hadn’t noticed.

The thing to bear in mind, if you have worked with this principle, is that most other people haven’t. That doesn’t make them stupid, or mean you should explain. When someone is having trouble with their world or somebody in it, it’s not always helpful to tell them how they are causing it. It is always worth trying to see what the situation looks like to them, and appreciating their emotions about it first. In an emotional state, we are usually not receptive to principles, however accurately they describe things. Principles are for the mind to consider coolly at some later moment. With so much Gemini energy this month, we may all find ourselves see-sawing between strong emotions and cool understanding. Both physical exercise and creative expression help soothe the emotional flow, and can allow understanding to rise naturally. (Gemini is about physical movement, and also movement between the logical and the creative in our thinking.)

Neptune square Sedna

There is another celestial situation, through this April, May and June, that may be stirring the depths beneath all our surface moods. Neptune is squaring Sedna for the first time; the retrograde second pass will be in February 07, and the third and last will be through the last months of 2007. I have written about Sedna’s story in my website under my ‘Current Comments - past’; but in a nutshell, so far she’s the furthest body found in our Solar System, very slow moving, 19 ½ Taurus right now, the Inuit goddess of the depths of the sea who is immensely powerful. Wales and dolphins express her, and yet she is said to harbour great resentment against men who have not treated her with respect. This could certainly represent an aspect of the feminine psyche in us all!

Neptune square Sedna could be showing up in our relationship with the Earth’s upheavals and climatic changes, where we either blame humanity and feel bad, or blame Nature and feel powerless. Rather than blaming, we could do with accepting the facts, and taking responsibility for what we can do to sensitively balance up.

This square could also show up in each individual as a sense of apprehension, as though hidden trouble was brewing somewhere deep in your life. The square relationship between the two planets indicates an over-sensitivity that leads to misinterpretation. We need to take especial care that we do not speak or act out of resentment or blame. As Jupiter is retrograde from March to July this year, it is natural for there to be a slowing of growth, and even definite hold-ups or apparent blocks. We need to allow for this pause in forward movement, and not to assume we’ve done something wrong. Focus on taking care of what you have created by allowing changes and improvements, and accept the divine timing of the forward push from July onwards. There is no need for anxiety.

Meditation for this
New Moon in Gemin
i

Be comfortable and breathe for a while, and then

consider why you communicate, what do you want to achieve by it?

What do you consider are the reasons different people say things to you?

What do you mean by the word ‘relationship’ - connection? possession? responsibility?

and

how do you ‘relate’ to the different people in your life?

Let this be a contemplation; there is no need for judgement.

Now breathe into your heart.

Allow the important relationships in your life to rise, and

notice how you ‘feel’ about each of those people, rather than what you ‘think’ about them.

(Depending on your nature, there may or may not be a difference.)

Know that you are held and loved immeasurably in the wholeness of life,

whatever you think, or feel, or do.

Notice how you habitually think about yourself,

and allow a kindly feeling for yourself to grow in your heart.

In each relationship in your life,

experiment with checking how you feel before you communicate what you think.

Practice communicating through touch, through posture and facial expression,

through respectful listening, and sound without words.

Communicate kindly with everything around you,

and give thanks for the gift of its presence in your life.

Communicate always from your heart.
