New Moon at the end of Virgo
The last New Moon was at the very beginning of
Virgo, so for the last month we have been involved in the
work of whatever we set in motion in July/August. This September
New Moon is at the very end of Virgo.
(I have wondered if the real ‘blue moon’
that people sing about is like this second one in Virgo. Every
month the Moon gets to the very end of a sign before moving
into the next, and at that end point, it will not be connecting
with any other planet before leaving the sign – what
astrologers call a ‘void of course’ Moon. In some
branches of astrology, the Moon is seen as the event bringer,
and being ‘void of course’ would mean that it
will not bring about any further events before the circumstances
change. It would be like a Moon empty of opportunity to create
– looking transparent to the dark blue sky behind it.
Actually, all New Moons, look like blue discs, as we are looking
entirely at the dark side. To get this in perspective, the
last ‘void of course’ New Moon was in April 2004
in Aries, and the next one will be in July 2009 in Cancer.)
This month we are approaching our harvest, that which our
previous planning and work will manifest. So, as well as completing
new stuff, we are likely to be dealing with loose ends and
the sorting, tidying and clearing, of old stuff. Regard it
as a preparation for whatever is coming next, and you won’t
be caught out with not enough space for the new, because the
next New Moon on 22 October suggests we’re in for a
big change. Most people I’ve spoken to are already feeling
as though energy is building. There’s a sense of excitement,
as though the conditions we’re dealing with now are
due to change anyway, each person’s life moving on to
it’s next idea (air), or next plan (fire), next relationship
experience (water), or next practical step in our life’s
path (earth). The Sun moving into Libra on 23 September may
show us what is coming.
Communication in relating
(On September 23 Mercury in Libra trines Neptune, 24
Jupiter in Scorpio squares Neptune, 25 Mercury sextiles Saturn.)
Mercury represents our communication with each other, and
movement, in daily life. Through 23 to 25 September, you could
find yourself moving from intuitively realising something,
to reacting very emotionally about it, and finally accepting
it. The suggestion is to hang in there during the emotional
stage, rather than giving up or saying something you’d
later regret.
By 26 September (Venus will be over the Moon’s South
Node) the sense of being able to manage the situation allows
kindness to surface. Your positive efforts will have been
working with life’s natural flow, and everyone benefits.

Emotional communication
From 2 November, (Mercury will be moving through Scorpio,
to conjunct Jupiter at the next New Moon) communication
is likely to be ‘from the hip’. Those afraid to
express their real feelings to others would do well to write
them down, because otherwise they are likely to build up inside.
The result of harbouring the unexpressed tends to be either
an out-of-control emotional explosion, or a health issue as
the body cannot handle one kind of hormonal secretion for
very long without suffering. And that’s what our emotions
are on the physical level - hormones produced by the organs
of the body and circulating around it.
When we harbour an emotion without expressing it, or when
we continually recreate an emotion by thinking circular thoughts
about something, we are putting enormous pressure on one or
two organs at the expense of the natural flow of them all.
Most people have a tendency to favour one or two emotional
reactions over other possible ones. Some emotions, of course,
are conducive to health: happiness, humour, enthusiasm, loving
acceptance, gratitude and more. The sorting out this month,
then, could be about what we really feel, underneath the blanket
of anxieties and desires; recognising what matters most to
us, and organising our way of life to keep those priorities
at the top.
The task that is endless . . .
So hold your focus, keep going even though you don’t
know quite where the path is taking you. Sudden moves are
not necessary and may well prove unproductive. A Virgo New
Moon is about working to improve life for everyone, and as
the Sun moves through Libra, we may well find that co-operation
works best: local groups sharing produce and skills, everyone
recycling their waste, social projects to support local good
causes. There is no end to what needs to be done.
Virgo work is the work that is never completed. If you try
to get finished, the pressure will be too great. It is the
quality of motivation that matters. Knowing you are helping
each other can make working together a relaxed enjoyable process.
Each one in the group needs to take responsibility for their
own strength and wellbeing, and each needs to contribute only
what they can spare of energy, time and resources. This may
be Virgo-like, but it’s also the way for the Aquarian
age!
