Communication requires movement

Gemini covers the principle of movement, which is why the character is said to need at least two of everything - two points between which to move. Movement could be a simple oscillation, or alternating, as in walking on the left foot and then the right. But it also offers the opportunity for communication between the points - communication between two people, or between the two hemispheres of the brain, between light and dark, between spirit and earth. What is necessary for communication to take place is that both points need to be expressive of themselves, and also receptive. Being a good listener does not make a relationship, neither does sharing your experience honestly, unless you do both, moving appropriately between them.

The rules of relating are being stated these days by Saturn making his way through Libra, and together with this New Moon (exactly trine Saturn) we have the possibility of honest, respectful and kind communication, the keystones of good relating. As Saturn is retrograde until the middle of June, we are likely to be communicating about what has gone before - getting up to date with each other, possibly about stuff that may have come up around last October (when Saturn was at that degree before). This New Moon creates a partial eclipse, so communication will feel clearer if we let go of the need to impress those people who are no longer part of our supportive network.

Movement requires awareness

During the past two weeks we may well have been feeling clearer, settling into our bodies and just getting on with life more steadily (Mercury/Venus/Mars in Taurus). So it’s from that foundation that we will be attempting to bring our relationships into harmony.

However, our first attempts may well bring results that we didn’t intend or want, especially the first week of June (Mercury, who rules our verbal connections is still in Taurus, with Venus and Mars following not too far behind, and squaring Neptune and Chiron).

This tendency to make mistakes first, before properly empathising with a situation, is likely to show up in our physical movements too, any travelling or activity, so perhaps take more care to be centred and aligned before taking any action. The tendency will be to ignore the peripheral information that is calling for things to be done differently - in a word, being stubborn about what we want to do, where we want to go - all that we have previously worked out - even though circumstances may being changing as we look. This is where the flexibility of Gemini is a bonus, when Mercury in Taurus prefers to dig its mental heels in.

Awareness allows new connections

As Jupiter shifts his generosity from self-absorbed Aries into the more practical field of Taurus on 4 June, we have to face up to the state our everyday world has got into, while we were looking at desirable potentials. It’s time to bring our plans into harmony with the facts, to recognise when a potential result is not achievable just at present.

During April to July, we are being called to practise letting go of the forms, styles, expectations of the past (Neptune’s first exploration of its own sign, Pisces, for four months before returning to Aquarius). From February 2012, Neptune will spend thirteen years in Pisces, dissolving the sea of past experience, and much of our learning since the last time it was there in April 1861! So over the next few years we will be called upon to let go of much of what we have come to rely on; not necessarily to lose it all, but to make new connections where appropriate within it. There are, and will continue to be, new ways of using our technological expertise - perhaps incorporating our empathic abilities with our mental agility - wonderful possibilities that we can hardly create ourselves until the right doors of perception open. The doors opening for the next year (Jupiter opens doors, offering opportunities) will be very practical and down to earth - maybe literally as well as figuratively.

Neptune dissolves boundaries - in Pisces, those are of the seas and show up in water movements. Kryon speaks of the melting ice caps shifting the pressure of water on the earth, triggering deep earth movements, so tsunamis, storms, and floods versus draughts; oil spills and how recovery happens; and so on.

Feeling globally

People keep asking me if there’s ‘something going on’ in astrology to match the turbulence that they are feeling and is in the world - my answer has to be: ‘Of course!’ We’ve actually been talking about these times for many years - it’s just hard, when you’ve had something in front of you for so long, to realise that you are now in it. It is surrounding, penetrating, and living in us and everybody else. Much of what we feel as individuals is possibly global - all we can do with that is acknowledge that we are connected, and relax with the feelings to allow them to pass through. Resisting what you feel blocks its flow, and you end up feeling it for a lot longer.

These are ‘the times’

- Pluto and Uranus squaring up, cracking the shell

A major aspect that astrologers have been wondering about during the run-up of the last few years is Pluto and Uranus at right angles to each other from Earth’s point of view (square), which is due to happen several times during 2012 to 2015. It happens so many times because they both appear to move forward and backward and forward again very slowly. For the last few years, at this time of the year, we have felt this connection getting closer and closer, and this June/July/August it’s almost exact.

Next year Pluto and Uranus will connect exactly at right angles to each other for the first of these impacts. I think it’s rather sweet that Pluto has been ‘demoted’ by astronomers to a dwarf planet before these times, as though the destructive impact could be reduced by so doing. And perhaps we are more prepared for transformation than we were, so the changes will be more handle’able than they might have been. With Pluto in Capricorn, these changes will largely be earth-centred, tectonic plates shifting and so on, but there is also the business side of Capricorn reflecting the need for change in the way we use money.

- Pluto and Neptune guiding the transformation

With Neptune moving through Pisces at the same time, and in harmony with Pluto, I see us as completely supported by ‘the powers that be’ or ‘the angelic realms’ or ‘the true nature of all that is’. The transformation over the coming years is absolutely due and correct and needed, so if we can be aware of the energy of life itself, we will flow through whatever we need to do, with minimum disturbance.

Humanity will be called on to work as a whole; the skills we will be calling on in ourselves are empathy, intuitive guidance and caring, and every day now is an opportunity to ready ourselves for whatever will be called for over the next few years.

Contemplation for this New Moon in Gemini

Being where you are,
allow the presence of two powerful energies just behind you
one at each shoulder.
They face the same direction as you -
they are like wings at your back.
Thus supported, face forward, standing firm.
Know that you can deal with whatever happens.
And then let your focus come closer
to what you can do
in this moment.

Whenever you find that your focus has stretched
into a worrying future,
be aware of these two forces at your back,
and trust that all will be well
because, in truth
all is well
