Loving each one has a knock-on effect

Leo is ruled by the Sun, the heart of the solar system, the heart centre of our bodies, the door to spirit through expressing the best of your Sun-sign. The radiation from the heart centre travels up through the throat, the place of love and relating (I use Venus to represent the throat centre) and down through the solar plexus, energy of action (I use Mars to represent this centre).

This New Moon is almost on Venus (2 degrees), and Venus appears to be going backwards towards it (retrograde), so this would be emphasising the upwards radiation of the heart-light. I take this to mean that this month is about loving, focusing us on learning to love our old enemies (retrograde motion tends to bring up the past) in order to set them, and ourselves, free from the past. That means being free from our habitual ways of reacting to people (Sun/Moon trine Uranus).

We need to be able to stand in the present in each interaction, whether the person is someone we know well, only a little or not at all: to stand there open-hearted and see exactly what is there to be seen. This month, such relating will bring knock-on effects that go far beyond our understanding, helping to heal all manner of situations (Sun/Moon quincunx Chiron in Pisces).

Stay present to the other when you speak to them

Our conscious communication, though, is more likely to be focused on practical aspects of life, how to change where necessary, and adapt to changes that have already taken place (Mercury in Virgo trine Pluto). Take care, when aiming to be helpful, that you don’t press too hard on people - everyone does need to go at their own pace, and their style of adaptation may be different from anything you’ve met before. So be prepared to offer what you know from your experience, and let each person take what they can and leave the rest, without trying to manipulate their responses.

The veils that shield us from each others’ emotional fields will be thin (Mercury opposite Neptune), so, as long as you are truly present, you will feel when enough has been said. Very often, the moment to stop giving advice is a subtle sense of confusion about exactly what to say next. This is where we may find ourselves repeating what we said before but with more force! That is definitely the point to hand the problem back to the owner of it, wishing them well. It is, after all, never our job to solve someone else’s problems. The best thing is to reassure them that some solution will arise given time and an open mind.

We are not our karma! We can let it go . . .

The real big problem for us all, this month, is likely to be an inner clash between the happiness we are aiming for, and our own deeper feelings (Sun/Moon/Venus in Leo all square Saturn who is still in Scorpio). This could look like: our buoyant optimism versus the pessimism that often attaches to a material focus. Sometimes we may feel guilty at being ‘afloat’ when others are clearly sinking; or we may be feeling robbed of our rights by those in authority.

Whatever arises needs to be addressed, but from the realisation that our reactions stem from our own personal past. It is our past reaction pattern that sets the shape of our present experience, and nothing can change that if we persist in having the same attitudes throughout our life. Hard stuff to face, and perhaps even harder to let it go, but not impossible . . .

Is this when the pendulum swings towards wholeness?

There is an intense energy shift at the Full Moon on 29 August: the same stuff to deal with, but perhaps it will be easier to accept what is. The energy of care and altruism may help us blend our desire for our own happiness with a broader desire, discovering the joy of helping others (Venus/Mars quincunx Pluto; and Sun/Jupiter in Virgo, opposite Moon/Neptune).

Those global feelings of guilt about the suffering of others could at last be morphing into a spiritual conscience bringing about more diplomacy and justice (Mercury on North Node in Libra sextile Saturn). This could be the mass of humanity turning its face towards repairing the damage done, and taking care of those in deepest need. Have we learned enough to swing that change, as Saturn moves through his last full month in Scorpio?

Of course he will come around the Zodiac again, but not for another 26 years! This window of vision into past pains, and the false conclusions we come to because of them - this window will close mid September. Let’s hang in there and receive every last scrap of understanding possible . . .

Contemplation for this New Moon in Leo

Imagine your heart and solar plexus
being one large centre of energy.

Allowing a sense of rooting down into the earth,
relax, and breathe into this body image
until you can feel your throat.
The energy expands lovingly up through your head
becoming wider and brighter
until you become a mighty vortex
rooted in the ground
and connected to all things.

Know that you are loved
and that this energy is life itself
flowing and loving.
There is nothing to do but this.
Bow your head to the beauty of it,
and try to remember it during your days.
